Which brings me to the topic of the day. R-E-L-A-X-A-T-I-O-N. Everyone knows the definition, but how many of us actually make a conscious effort to relax daily? There are so many things, situations and people that can cause us stress. I would like to share my five favorite ways to unwind and really de-stress.
1.) Tea
Oh yes! There is nothing a nice cup of tea cannot solve : ) My favorite at the moment is Jasmine Green Tea. The whole process of making and then enjoying a cup of tea is soothing for me. Whether alone or with a friend, enjoying a cup of tea is sure to bring only good vibes.
2.) Beach
Living in South Florida has its perks and this is definitely one for me. If I'm happy, I go to the beach and if I'm anxious or stressed I head to the beach. The sound of the waves and the salt water against my skin all make for a very calming experience. I realize that not all of us live near the beach. A nice alternative: candle lit bath anyone?
3.) Listening to Music
Whatever genre your heart desires at that particular moment can serve as a tool for relaxation. I enjoy all different genres of music. If you want to relax to merengue, you should! It might even make you get up and unleash your inner suavemente. Though, lately I have been listening to trip hop, reggae and classical.
4.) Writing
This is a personal favorite because well... I love writing (yeah no surprise there!) Make it a point to do anything creative that you enjoy. It will have a calming effect on you - no doubt.
5.) Walk / Jog
Yeah I know some of your are a bit iffy on this one, but trust me I'm a blogger :*) In all seriousness going for a walk/jog/run has been scientifically proven to be a stress reliever. That amazing feeling you have after a great workout is the proof. It is caused in part by the release of serotonin. High levels of it make us feel pretty awesome. The body likes what the body likes.
Last but not least. If you are unable to do any of the above take the time to breathe. Take deep breaths in and exhale slowly. Do this for at least 1 minute and I promise you will notice a difference.

Wow, I love the fresh clean look of your site. I instantly got an exhale and spa like feeling. I totally agree with your suggestion of tea.
ReplyDeleteThe process of preparing the tea has been soothing for me as well. So much so that in the early years of my marriage I insisted that my husband join me for a cup no less than twice a week. Oh how we would just relax and talk- actually talk to each other about little nothings.
Thank you for your post. You have awaken wonderful memories and inspired me to try again.
My go to method of de-stressing is going through my photo gallery on my phone. Looking back at the cool moments with my children that I just had to get a shot of or capture on video really puts me in a relaxed and grateful state of mind.
I really appreciate that, thanks so much! Going through the gallery is a great one, I hadn't thought of it until you mentioned it. Let me know if your tea dates begin again : )
