The Return of Insecure and Game of Thrones!

These days we have so many TV show options. Honestly, some shows are not all that they're hyped up to be. I wanted to cut through all of the hype and just get to the good stuff. The following shows in my humble opinion are awesome!

  1. Game of Thrones (HBO) - no shortage of drama and debauchery. This show pulls you in from the beginning and doesn't let you go. It's been a entire year since season 6 wrapped up and we've all been waiting with baited breath. Finally Season 7 premiers on HBO on July 16th at 9 pm/eastern time.
  2. Insecure (HBO) - This show is everything! I have only the utmost respect for the show's creator, Issa Rae! Everything from the music (one episode featured Uptown Top Ranking by Althea & Donna *color me impressed) to the characters and the writing is done so well. A real show for millennials. Don't miss the airing of Season 2 on July 23rd at 10:30p/eastern
  3. How to Get Away with Murder (ABC) - Welcome to Shondaland! Shonda Rhimes is no stranger to drama. She has created and written other hit shows like Grey's Anatomy and Scandal. This show is intense and the acting is superb. Season 4 will premiere this fall.
  4. Chewing Gum (Netflix) - First 5 minutes watching this show I was like....
    Shocking
but just stick with it and you'll soon find that it's brilliant! I am laughing as I type this because I'm remembering some of the scenes. It's a comedy and that's all I'm going to say about that : )

Ok, so the show I've been hearing so much about, but have yet to actually watch is Power. Season 4 is premiering tonight on Starz. Is it good? Let me know what you think. What shows are you indulging in? Comment below to let me know.

Homemade Almond Milk

Hello beautiful people! So, I love making morning smoothies and I recently shared a recipe for my favorite Alkalizing Super Juice. Today, I wanted to share how I make almond milk from scratch. It is super easy, quick, and you don't have to worry about any questionable additives.

What you'll need:
  • Almonds (1 cup)
  • Water (3 1/2 cups)
  • 1 Medjool Date  (optional natural sweetener)
  • Vanilla Bean or Extract (1/4 tsp - optional)
Here's what I did:
  1. Soak almonds overnight. Make sure you add enough water to cover the almonds
  2. Drain water from the almonds
  3. Add almonds + 3 1/2 cups of water + date  to blender
  4. Blend for 1 minute
  5. Strain using a Nut Milk Bag
  6. Add vanilla to taste & whisk
  7. Refrigerate and consume within 3 days
After blending for 1 minute

After straining this is what's left behind -- discard it

So, I would love to hear from you! Please leave your favorite smoothie blends in the comment section below. Oh and don't forget to follow me on Instagram + Twitter @charliculture. Until next time, I wish you all lots of love and laughter.

Saving for Rainy Days

Thanks for stopping by!! I'm sharing my favorite way to save money using a company named Digit. In this digital world, it makes sense that you can save money without even doing anything. Wait let me explain. What Digit does is it evaluates your spending habits and then uses an algorithm to determine how much money you can actually afford to save. They debit the money throughout the month. With that said, you are still completely in control of your savings. You can have Digit save more aggressively, or less and you can even pause savings.

The fact is, saving for whatever the future may bring is very important no matter what age. I've been happily saving with them for almost a year now and it has been a great experience. Just for using my signup code they will give us both $5 as a welcome (sign up HERE).

So, this is just one way of saving, please share with me what savings tips you currently use. I would love to know. Connect with me on Instagram and Twitter!!

#CharliChew: The Halal Guys Davie Review

What does a foodie do when she hears that one of her favorite NYC street food vendors is opening a restaurant in South Florida? She decides to check out the place asap!! So, The Halal Guys Davie location opened its doors in January. I went in last week and got a chicken sandwich. Their sandwiches are served with pita, lettuce and tomatoes. I love onions, so I added that.

I decide on a whim to get the fries once I found out they were the crinkly cut ones. I have a special place in my heart for those and curly fries.

Then, it was time to choose the sauce. I got their famous white sauce. Mixture of Greek yogurt, mayo and other stuff. Then I also got a packet of their hot sauce. It is really hot, no joke. A little goes a long way, I liked it though.

Service was fast and friendly. I appreciate that. The sandwich was good, but I absolutely loved the fries!!

Are You Complaining Through Your Blessings

Hello! Hope all of you are doing well.

I just realized how much time I waste complaining through situations or opportunities that are actual blessings. I am personally challenging myself to be more thankful and to celebrate more. Often times, we wait until we look back months or even years later and go, "oh shoot, that was actually a good time in my life." Have you experienced the same thing? Is it just me?

I want to put this idea out there for reflection. It's 2017 already, let us look at the glass as half full and work towards keeping that glass full. Preferably with some fresh squeezed lemonade sweetened with brown sugar or champagne; whatever makes you happy : )

If you liked this post please share it and connect with me on Instagram or Twitter: @charliculture
I want to hear your thoughts.
